Objective: The aim of the present study was to develop a Chinese version of the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire(CERQ-C) and evaluate its reliability and validity.Method: The English version of the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire was translated and back-translated prior to its administration to 1910 participants recruited from middle school and university with age ranged from 12 to 23 years old, who was divided into three group by age(junior high school, Senior high school, university). One month later, the CERQ-C was randomly readministered to a subset(n=100) of the original three groups respectively. Cronbach's alpha coefficient, mean inter-item correlation coefficient and test-retest reliability were analyzed for the reliability of CERQ-C. The construct validity and concurrent validity of CERQ-C were also examined in this study. Results: 1. Internal consistency: for junior high school samples, Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the total scale was 0.88, Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the nine subscales ranged from 0.55 to 0.81, the mean inter-item correlation coefficient of the nine subscale ranged from 0.24 to 0.52; for senior high school samples, Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the total scale was 0.89, Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the nine subscales ranged from 0.59 to 0.85, the mean inter-item correlation coefficient of the nine subscale ranged from 0.26 to 0.59; as for university samples, Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the total scale was 0.81; Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the nine subscales ranged from 0.48 to 0.91, the mean inter-item correlation coefficient of the nine subscale ranged from 0.25 to 0.71. 2. Test-retest reliability: for junior high school samples, the test-retest reliability of the total scale was 0.57, the test-retest reliability of nine subscales ranged from 0.34 to 0.67; for senior high school samples, the test-retest reliability of the total scale was 0.58, the test-retest reliability of nine subscales ranged from 0.35 to 0.66; as for university samples, the test-retest reliability of the total scale was 0.56, the test-retest reliability of nine subscales ranged from 0.36 to 0.69. 3. Concurrent validity: the results of bivariate Pearson correlation and partial correlation showed that cognitive emotion regulation strategies significantly related with depressive and anxious symptoms, cognitive strategies play a role of predictor for negative emotion. The following cognitive strategies predicted for depression: Acceptance, Positive Refocusing, Positive Reappraisal, Putting into Perspective, Catastrophzing and Rumination; and Catastrophzing and Rumination predicted for anxiety as well. 4. Confirmatory factor analysis shown that the following five indices met the psychometrics standard: CFI>0.90, IFI>0.90, TLI>0.90, NFI>0.90, RMSEA<0.08.Conclusion: The properties of CERQ-C met the psychometrics standard indicated that it is a reliable and valid assessment of cognitive emotion regulation strategies.
