Featuring softness, comfort, fit and elasticity, knitted dress bears its unique style boasts one significant category of costume. Accordingly, from the perspective of designing catering to the modern way of life, this thesis aims at probing into the designing and application of weft knitting dress, rooted in the modern society.With specific craft (knitted from yarn to costume) and elastic material full of color and texture and economical structure, knitted dress demonstrates its outstanding texture, catching optical impact and fresh contour. Knitted dress is more and more diversified with new materials invented, accordingly, on its fashionable and functional way, no longer a practical everyday use. However, compared with its oversea counterpart, our domestic products lag behind by its comparatively poor design and low additional value. Therefore, a systematic and profound probe into the design and application of knitted dress is of great importance. This thesis will search on the design of modern weft knitting from the following aspects:Firstly, the design of materials including the yarn and texture;Secondly, design of color according to the craft;Thirdly, design on the structure of knitted dress;Last, the design on silhouette. From the four elementary aspects, the thesis tries to be specific on the designing in accordance with the craftsmanship, and simultaneously, to shorten the communicating time between craftsmen and the time from the designing to producing, thus, to save costs. Accordingly, designing can be much diversified. The knitted dress design, therefore, can be more reasonable, beautiful and practical.The last part of the thesis focuses on the application of design. Taking the elementary factors into account, the thesis tries to conclude different methods and ways in design. Focusing on one element, the thesis makes proof by designing a series of knitted dresses as an application case.This research on the design of knitted dress, which enjoying more and more popularity and diversity nowadays, is both of practical significance and of great value of study for it enriches the theoretical study on the field of knitting design to a large extent.
