A Surrounded City, written by Chinese famous writer Qian Zhong-shu, as a classic fiction in China modern literature history, gave rise to a lasting Heat of A Surrounded City in the 1980s, which manifested in the forms as the followings: A Surrounded City has been translated into many foreign languages and printed and published over and again; experts and scholars home and broad has been interested in it and come up to three climaxes of research; furthermore, the fiction of A Surrounded City has been shot into a TV play of 10 series, making the fiction walk from the academic community to popular folk life.However, this marvellous fiction had been not concerned for nearly 30 years (between 1949 and 1980), the reasons for which are that the subject, style and taste of A Surrounded City were not conformed to the background of then era and that the writer's indifferent and self-enclosed character made him and his fiction gradually forgotten by the readers.With the advent of 1980s, the emancipation of mind in the culture field, the profound content and outstanding comic spirit, the writer's unique character, the autobiographical tendency of the fiction, the writer's academic achievements in Chinese and English and the influence of western cultural thought trend made the fiction come into the vision of readers once again. A Surrounded City, for its profound ideological content, outstanding satire arts and special language style, has been loved by readers and audiences.
