The article explores the relationship between western psychology and its scientific characteristic, finds how scientific chacteristic was given birth to and how it developt, shows the contributions and the flaws of this chacteristic and gives a clear interview to the relationship between psychology and culture. Western psychology has profound scientific charadteristic, represented by its physicalism view to object and using positivism principle in methods. This scientific charadteristic can be cast back from the very beginning of western psychology, and it's still being along with western psychology now. Behind this are profound and complex cultural roots, including habitually used thought pattern; positivism, the spirit of the age; scientism, world outlook from 16th century to 19th century, etc. Scientific charactertistic has done great work and given a great impetus to psychology's develpment. But its inherent defect also brought a lot of negative consequences. Psychology's further development needs transforming old thought pattern, getting rid of traditional object view and breaking methodological ties.
