The Study Of The Boycott To American' Goods In 1905-1906 Of Guangdong

1905 was a quite important year in Sino- American relationship. In May of this year, People in Shanghai began to boycott the American's goods and protested against the American ill-treating of the Chinese laborers, and then, more than one year's nationwide vigorous boycott movement was rapidly going on and spread to more than 20 cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Hangzhou, Yichang, Guangzhou, Hankou, Nanjing and some small cities and villages. People from all walks of life established boycott American goods associations and finally were united into a nationwide nationalist movement. This was the first organized and direct anti- imperialist patriotic movement , symbolizing the new awakening of the Chinese nationalism . This article selects the boycott movement in Guangdong, especially in Guangzhou, in 1905 , as the main target and attempts to give it a comprehensive study and analysis. Having collecting much historical data, the paper researches first the origin of the movement and the two unrests in Guangzhou and other places till the end and analyzes the consciousness of China-made goods. Finally , it summarizes the five characters of this movement.In short, on the basis of our predecessors'study and inspection to boycott in Guangdong area in 1905, this paper is to give some help to understand comprehensively and objectively the boycott movement in 1905 .
