The development of televised documentary has gone through half a century in China. The 1980's and the beginning of the 21st century are two periods when the full length televised documentary prospers. From the initial"visualized political comment"to the consciousness and the return of thing-in-itself of documentary film, the full length televised documentary starts to establish and to be mature day after day as one kind of films. As the barometer of the development of society, the twice prosperity of the full length televised documentary not only manifests the law of the development of documentary film itself, but also has close correlation with the development of China's social economy and culture. Either for open China's obvious demand for national spirit, or for self-consideration of great nation in the vision of globalization, the full length televised documentary is the best choice of times. Documentary film is the art of time. Record inevitably encounters history. The characteristics of the full length televised documentary have determined that it has inborn relationship with history. All of history is the contemporary history. The historical conception of times has determined the relationship of history and record image. In addition, the mass culture as characteristics of television, the consciousness of record for outstanding persons, and the full length televised documentary's inborn dependence on the country ideology cause that the production and the dissemination of the televised documentary have been supervised and coerced by the populace, the outstanding persons and the country ideology.
