At the present age when people come to realize the existence of those toddlers, when art comes into mature period, when the expression becomes so varied, the children's book illustration (CBI) has gone far from what it was in its early stage--merely relying on written words. Obviously it turns out to be a completely standalone painting genre. Like the children's growth, the potential and value of this sort of art go beyond our estimation. At this moment, digital technology enables us to transfer image into precise 2-D printing by computers. All material and media are able to be used into the production of CBI as producer's wish. Yet under this seemingly encouraging background,'how'and'why'to introduce this type of exquisite art would be worth researching and discussing, which require the consistency of convergence between media, material and CBI, namely the consistency between art creative motivation and media/material selection, the consistency between object of expression and connotation of material. Rooted from the feature of CBI, artists have been seeking and contemplating in the real time practice.Based on the analysis to state quo of domestic/foreign CBI, this paper combines the works from numbers of outstanding CBI figures together with my own practical experiences and works, systematically describes the various utility of typical media and material, in a hope of making contribution to the yet-to-be-grown-up CBI in China at the threshold of unprecedented flourishing era.
