On The Composing Characteristics Of Tianhua Liu' Erhu Compositions

Tianhua Liu(1895--1932), whose former name is Shouchun, was born in Jiang Yin, Jiangsu province. He is a composer, concert performer, educator, and reformer for Chinese national musical instruments. This dissertation, the study subject of which is the ten Erhu compositions by Tianhua Liu, analyses the composing characteristics of his compositions, defines the significance and influence brought about by his compositions on the development of Erhu art and aims to provide meaningful inspiration for Erhu composition and the development of Erhu art.The dissertation is divided into three chapters, using such study methods as consulting reference books, analyzing and comparing to approach Liu's Erhu composing characteristics from three aspects.In chapter one----the creating source of Liu's Erhu compositions the main factors forming the composing characteristics of Liu's Erhu compositions are summarized: his family, teachers, friends, the times and himself.In chapter two---- the composing characteristics of Liu's Erhu compositions---- the composing characteristics of Liu's Erhu compositions are analyzed from four perspectives, that is, melody, musical form, technique and emotion. On this basis, the characteristics of nationality, creativity, the times and the people of Liu's Erhu compositions are discussed.Chapter three----the significance of Liu's Erhu composition analyses the positive significance of the Erhu composition by Tianhua Liu and the influence it has on the development of Erhu art later on; and some inspirations are obtained to guide Erhu composition and the development of Erhu art in the future.
