Zhao Shuli is a 'peasant writer' that has been really held in high esteem anddeeply loved by peasants and the general literature lovers in modern Chineseliterature history. In the literary circle of the liberated area in the 1940s, hedistinguished himself by his literary ideology, writer's mission, appreciation of thebeautiful, his way to display the beautiful and artistic taste to give us a realisticdescription of the life of the peasants in the northern China. By his unique literaryworks and upholding the national literature, he created a glorious era of peasants'literature in modern Chinese literature. And his "modern novel of Pingshu Style" had agreat impact on the literature in the whole liberated area and even that of the 1950s to1960s.Zhao Shuli was born and brought up in the countryside and later participated inthe revolutionary and constructional work there. In the peasant's identity and mentality,he accurately found out and truly and profoundly showed their inner world, ways ofthinking, aesthetic standards and emotions. He had a broad heart and hoped thatpeasants would live a better life and looked forward to the progress and civilization inthe countryside.His Marriage of Young Blacky, the Rhythm of Li Youcai and the Changes in theVillage are his masterpieces. They are popularly enjoyed by the mass and becameclassics just because they originated from his peasant identity, peasant ideology andhis literary ideal of the essence of a peasant, loving the peasant and for the peasant.His "modern novel of Pingshu Style", its popularity and his literature based on folkliterature and folk style, paved the way for his unique aesthetic style and at the same time left us a precious legacy of literature and writing experienceTheoretically speaking, Zhao Hula's literary ideology can be summarized as thefollowing three aspects: a. peasant-oriented; b. popularized and the love for peasants;c. for the peasants, adhering to the folk style. His aesthetic style is shown in thefollowing three aspects, too: a. the strong humor of the Shangdang District; b. a happyending for all; c. the various stylesAt the present, we are speeding up the pace of building a new modern socialistcountryside and paying attention to the realization of the goal of well-off countryside.And these are exactly what he looked forward to in his lifetime and his pursuits in hisworks. And now, the country and the country life provide abundant materials for thepeasant culture. Literature should be close to the life, serves the people and writershould go to their homes and experience their life. These are exactly the positiveeffect Zhao Shuli's literary ideal and aesthetic styles have on the writers.
