| Cross-talk is a traditional Chinese folk art, which has had a history of more than one hundred years. The humorous cross-talk language refers to the words, phrases or sentences in the cross-talk that can produce humorous, comic, absurd and enjoyable results. The study of humorous cross-talk language from the point view of pragmatics is of great importance, which can in one way explore the deeper features of humorous cross-talk language, in another way can find out the pragmatic elements in the formation of humorous cross-talk language.The paper tries to analyze the humorous cross-talk language from the point view of pragmatics. Some pragmatic theories, such as deixis, conversational implicature, presupposition, politeness principle and relevance theory are used in the analysis: deixis is a useful way of creating humorous language: person deixis, temporal deixis, spatial deixis, discourse deixis and social deixis play an important role in the formation of humorous cross-talk language; the theories of conversational implicature are also a functional way of analyzing humorous cross-talk language: deliberate accepting or violating the cooperative principle can both bring out humorous effects; the study of presupposition has always been an important topic in the study of pragmatics, which concerns with the study of logic and semantics, plays an initial role in the design of the cross-talk; politeness principle, which has been enriched by Confucianism-led Chinese culture, is also used in the cross-talk language: deliberate flouting the politeness principle may result in a humorous and enjoyable atmosphere; relevance theory is a hot topic in the present study of pragmatics: relevance can better explain the formation of humorous cross-talk language, which provides a new way to the study of humorous cross-talk language.From the findings in the study, the writer holds that any single pragmatic theory can not bring satisfactory explanation to the analysis of humorous cross-talk language. It is the varied pragmatic elements that lead to the formation of humorous cross-talk language. Its formation is closely related to the psychology, habits, characteristics of its people and social political system. |
