LiaoZhaiZhiYi , reflects the feudal marriage and is involved in some marriage problems. While author is telling the stories, male consciousness is everywhere. In the society of men, the idea of"man is superior to woman"deeply influences marriage and family. The three obediences and the four virtues (the three obediences to father before marriage, to husband after marriage and to son after the death of husband) and the four virtues (morality, proper speech, modest manner and diligent needlework) make women inferior and subordinate. The inequality between wife and husband inclines the centre of family and results in many marriage problems. There are many stories in LiaoZhaiZhiYi are related to marriage, and the author in this article will try to analyze and expound marriage problems giving priority to women. There are three chapters except the introduction and complement. In the introduction , the author makes a comprehensive research on the historic and present study on love and marriage in LiaoZhaiZhiYi. Pu Songling takes pity on the majority of women, pays attribute to young people's love, and animadverts on feudal ceremony, which researchers have come to consent. The discussion and study on this problem are based on this. Under such circumstance and on the basis of former study, this article makes a further analysis using"she"as the first person from the point of female and a new point of view. The next three chapters deeply analyses the classifications of love and marriage involved in LiaoZhaiZhiYi:"plural marriage"and marriage problems, extramarital love and marriage, social ceremony and marriage. These three kinds of problems all reflect deep influence of feudal ceremony, the rebel to the ceremony and improved personal ideas. In Chapter One, the presupposition of polygamy is sons and heir, but actually this became the excuse of men's prurience. Although the law prescribe the condition for concubinage, it is difficult to carry out. As the wide existence of polygyny, various family contradictions resulted from this family structure come along: jealous wife and hellcat, wife and concubines wanting doting on themselves, two women serving one husband, love giving prior to sons and heir and so on. As to these marriage problems, Pu Songling is contradictive. Sometimes he agreed on women's role decided by feudal ceremony, but sometimes he disagreed.About Chapter Two. In LiaoZhaiZhiYi, Pu Songling wrote some extramarital love stories of some married men except some storied in which young people strive for free love and marriage. Feudality allows men to have concubines, but, besides the family, he must not have adultery and have any"lover"or"mistress"in modern sense. A man should be severely condemned if he had extramarital love. Different from the requirement of society, Pu Songling who thought highly of affection showed his special generosity. He even appreciated and praised it, and he especially took pity on women's feelings and thought and paid attention to it. Even against such a background, Pu Songling still sang the praises of women. He enthusiastically appreciated love, and calmly ponder the pain of a wife having losing her love.About Chapter Three. Men combine three principles together which are bondage of feudal ceremony, moral sermon and the education of making people unwise, and all of this make women blindly believe that"uneducated women have virtue". Women are encouraged to keep chasteness, and widow must not marry again. Under such a complicated social circumstance, women are educated that"what is vitally important is not starvation to death but losing one's chastity". They carry out the belief that"follow a man from the beginning to the end"and never change. In the book LiaoZhaiZhiYi , the author denies the feudal idea that"uneducated women have virtue", overthrows the chaste concept that"be faithful to husband no matter what lot he has".Paying attention to careful reading of the text, by analyzing the representational works, The author analyzes the problems being discussed depicting while remarking, so expound the social significance reflected in Strange tales from a lonely studio from a new point of view.
