According to this, costume is the essential supporting elements for writer to create literary characters and the main measures to portray figures. Especially under the situation of re-defining race, state, nation and personnel status, the status worry must turn into costume worry, which may be reflected in the modern writers' creation. Furthermore, Shen Congwen had the status background of Miao people who only had language, but not words, so the ethnic group's history could be recorded by costume. Shen Congwen did some research on costume and china after liberation. All the above made it have special significance to study the female costume in Shen Congwen's novels. It's helpful for us to have a new viewpoint to study Shen Congwen's novels and understand how the description of costume developed, if we probe into the costume description of girl, traditional woman, locale prostitute in the west of Hunan, and then knew some aesthetic characters and cultural intension. This may give some useful inspiration to contemporary novel creation.The paper consists of introduction, main body and conclusion.The first part gave brief introduction to the significance of topic selecting, present situation of research, basic train of thought and method of study.Chapter one analyzed on the costume description of young girl in the west of Hunan, which is the description arts of comparison between simple and complex, stressing on spirit and abandoning figure. Then the costume description of locale prostitute in the west of Hunan was analyzed, which is the description arts of color's comparison. At last, the costume of traditional woman in the west of Hunan was analyzed, which is the description arts of combining customs.Chapter two summarized the total and individual characters of female's costume description in Shen Congwen's novels from Confucians and Taoists' reviews.Chapter three analyzed the reasons why Shen Congwen stressed on female's costume description from factors of writer's individual, creative, status and district.Chapter four discussed the cultural intension of costume culture represented by the female's costume description in Shen Congwen's novels.The conclusion summarized the main idea of the paper, and pointed out some weakness and the field which could be expanded more. |
