The Bluest Eye was the first novel of Toni Morrison, the most eminent Afro-American writer. It tells about a story of a little black girl who desires for a pair of blue eyes. The analysis of this thesis is based on the postcolonial perspective to explain the culturally and psychologically colonized Afro-Americans, and try to dig out the inner elements that result in their self-loathing, self-contempt and the dilemma of Afro-Americans'national and cultural identity. Furthermore, the black culture and its values are explored in this thesis, which indicates that the retaining of black culture may act like a kind of potential resistance to the cultural hegemony and a therapy to black's physical and psychological disability. Pecola's tragedy proves undoubtedly that the African Americans cannot accept the value system of the dominant white culture at the cost of cutting from their black culture. Only rooted in the rich soil of their own culture, can the African Americans find their true self and identity.
