Study On Zhang Shen-fu's Democratic Idea Of China In The 1940s

Zhang Shen-fu is a figure who can't be neglected in intellectual history of modern China. His democratic thought, of certain uniqueness and representativeness, is an indispensable part in the study of China's middle-of-the-road line in 1930s and 1940s.This thesis is divided four parts to explain and analyze the democratic thought of Zhang Shen-fu. Part one starts from Zhang Shen-fu's personal growth and development, sorts out train of thought and causality between democratic thought and ideological system.Part two is mainly based on a series of articles on democratic thought during his time in China Democratic League, focuses on " democratic outline "to carry on the overall combing and comment of Zhang Shen-fu's democratic thought .Part three digs the origin of Zhang Shen-fu's democratic thought and compares it with that of the contemporary members of China Democratic League such as Zhang Jun-mai, Luo Long-ji to highlight the characteristics of Zhang Shen-fu's democratic thought. Part four introduces democratic thought development history of modern China and explains time significance and limitation of Zhang Shen-fu's democratic thought.Zhang Shen-fu's democratic thought has 3 conspicuous characteristics. First, his democratic thought is to regard Marxism scientific world outlook and methodology as the theory source and is inclined to scientific socialism. Second, his democratic thought emphasizes the China's actual conditions, continuity and feasibility on the ideology and culture while synthesizing outstanding thought at all times and in all lands. At last, his democratic thought is with " kindness " for the political ideological system that is belonged to, there is a kind of ultimate ideal meaning. There are a lot of constructive ideas in Zhang Shen-fu's democratic thought which are of positive significance at that time and present democratic construction, but some among them are insufficient, which are not only the revealment of his thought limitation, but also having reflected some intellectuals as a public organization too, the limitation existing in the tendency of the era.
