Semantics is the core of translation, while context acts as the foundation of translation. There is all-round expounding of the theory in semantics and pragmatics applied to the study of contextual influence on translation. Nevertheless, Language is not simply a symbol and a tool. It covers diverse disciplines and domains. The multi-dimensional system comprising of the elements such as psychology, cognition, symbols, semantics and pragmatics, etc. will inevitably determine the varieties of its research methods and perspectives. With the rapid development of social information communication, information has showed an overwhelming tendency and has already interpenetrated many different domains. Accordingly, it is necessary to apply the theory to language domain. With the breakthrough points in information, language is viewed as the most basic and complex information form, clued by internal information from which infers and activates the external information by employing the pragmatical notions such as the theory of conversational implicature, finally achieving the goal— speech act. Based on the theory of information field, together with the general and specific function of context, this paper discusses the contextual approaches to translating with plentiful translating instances from the scope of the relevance in information field, thus, attempts to illuminate us with a new approach to the all-round understanding of the source materials.
