Consuming culture nowadays has no longer been confined to sociology, and has become a main issue of different fields of social science. Consuming culture foretells the coming of a new social shape and social culture. It also brings, forth a series of subcultures such as vision culture and eyeball economy. For decades, especially from 1970s to 1980s, Taiwan has been deeply affected by the consuming culture in its economy and culture. During this period of time, the LiAo Phenomenon appears. With the opening-up and the rapid development of the economy in Chinese mainland, the Chinese traditional culture has been affected by the consuming culture and the LiAo Phenomenon has also swept the Chinese mainland.This essay analyses the LiAo Phenomenon and agrees that there are corresponding cultural characteristics among its cultural value, view of taste, ethics, and political viewpoint, for they embody the cultural background of production and consumption. And LiAo, the focus of dispute, can never cut his relationship with the consuming culture.
