With China's opening to the outside world, its entering into the World Trade Organization, and the inevitable trends of globalization of the world economy, intercultural communication has become an important part of our daily life. Meanwhile, culture shock is a common experience of people who have been suddenly transplanted abroad. West Street is an old and simple street with a long history in Yangshuo, but it is known for its terrific image of"global village", and"the home of modern human being", etc. Every year, it attracts thousands and millions of visitors from all over the world. Most of them stay here for several days or weeks even several years. Many of them miss it so much even though they go back to their hometowns that they come to West Street several times. Why do foreign travelers like staying at West Street? Why do they have the feeling of returning to their homes? Do they suffer greatly from culture shock when they are at West Street? This current paper is going to answer these questions by analyzing the cultural adaptation in Yangshuo West Street from the perspective of cultural differences.Chapter one is introduction. Then literature about intercultural communication, culture shock, cultural adaptation, Yangshuo West Street and the definition of culture is reviewed in chapter two. Chapter three is a brief introduction of Yangshuo County and West Street. Yangshuo is one of the first counties in China open to tourists from the outside world. In Guangxi, people always say that Guilin has the most beautiful mountains and water in the world and Yangshuo is even more beautiful than Guilin! As an old and simple street in Yangshuo county town, the West Street attracts countless foreign travelers, especially those backpackers every year. Chapter four is about the multi-cultural elements in Yangshuo West Street. In addition to the terrific sceneries around it, West Street has the reputation of"the folk mini-cultural United Nations". It is a perfect model of Oriental culture, of globalization, and of harmonious society. Most of the backpackers who stay at West Street are from western countries; and the existing multi-cultural elements in Yangshuo West Street help them shorten their cultural adaptation processes because they can find something in common with their native cultures.
