Leisure, as a new phenomenon of economy and culture in society, has been studied by scholars from the perspective of philosophy, economics, sociology and culture studies. Nowadays the rapid development of leisure culture and leisure phenomenon is indicative of the necessity of a study from the perspective of aesthetics in addition to those approaches available. The thoughts of leisure aesthetics, abundant and rich, date back to antiquity in China. But the first person who has given it a serious theoretical analysis and thinking is Wang Guowei at the turn of old and new times. In his large bulk of aesthetic thoughts it is easy to find abundant ideas of leisure aesthetics. In A Study on People's Hobbies, On Eradication of Opium and his leisure aesthetics criticisms of literature, Wang Guowei holds that literature is "an undertaking of games" and "not utility-oriented"; the aesthetic leisure subject in literary leisure, with a "still minded" attitude unaffected by utilitarianism, takes an aesthetics review of the "archaic and elegant" "meaningful forms" of the literature. Wang Guowei's literary leisure is in fact a "leisure of misery and anxiety" which is quite provocative and inspiring for the understanding of the current leisure literature and the promoting of its flavor.
