Experimental Study Of Telling And Detecting Lies Of The Blind And Deaf

Being ubiquitous in routine life, telling and detecting lies affect every one of us, and have the same impact on these special groups of the blind and the deaf. There is few study on the blind and deaf's ability to tell and detect lies up to now. The blind, deaf and normal university students were tested to explore the differences of the blind, the deaf and normal people's ability to detect deception and the differences of the blind and normal people's ability to tell lies. The differences of the congenital blind's and the adventitious blind's ability to tell and detect lies were also investigated. Subjects were asked to watch or listen to some videos and to judge which is lying and which is true. The figures in the videos were some blind and university students who were asked to pretend or tell to truth. Our research was mainly carried out by three experiment series. In study 1, the blind and normal people's abilities to detect deception were compared. In study 2, the blind and normal people's abilities to lie were compared, In study 3, the deaf's ability to detect lie were explored.The following results were obtained:(1)The blind, the deaf and the normal people have no difference of the ability to detect normal people' deception. There are also no differences between the congenital blind and the adventitious blind. The blind, the deaf and the normal people could not accurately identify normal people's lies.(2)There is no difference of the confidence level between the blind and the normal people, and between the deaf and the normal people when detecting normal people' lies. However, the adventitious blind's confidence level is higher than the deaf when there is no difference between the adventitious blind and the deaf.
