A Brief Discussion About Jinmen Original Literature In Recent Fifteen Years

Jinmen, an island city, although not founded until the fourth year of the Republic of China (1915), which belonged originally to Tong'an County,, has a long history and rich culture. Her development goes back to Jin Dynasty. More than 40 Jinshi ( successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations) and a lot of famous litterateurs were produced from Song Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasty.Jinmen is only two or three kilometers away from Mainland, but over 270 kilometers away from Taiwan. Her culture is typical Minnan (South of Fujian) Culture. Ideologically, Jinmen Culture still belongs to Taiwan Culture. Because of her special location and the as-long-as-fifty-year hostile confrontation between Taiwan and Mainland, Jinmen Culture has been awkward. But it doesn't mean that Jinmen Culture is not worthy of study. With policies like "Xiamen, Jinmen Opening to Each Other", "Three Direct Links" , people on both banks communicate more and more often, and Jinmen is known better and better. Therefore, the importance of the study of Jinmen culture is becoming increasingly valued.This thesis focuses on Jinmen Yuanxiang Literature in recent 15 years, i.e. from 1992, when "Battleground Government Affairs" was released, till today. From the influence on literature of Jinmen's geography,culture, wars, migration of people and so on, this thesis makes an all-round description and study of Jinmen's important writers, novels, poetry and essays; discusses the essence ofMinnan Culture in Jinmen Literature and topics like Minnan dialect, daily-life customs, the relations between Jinmen and Mainland, Jinmen and Taiwan, wars, etc. Prospects are also made of Jinmen Literature in the new century: changes are possible in the subjects of Jinmen Literature with the increase in the communication between people on both banks; with Zheng Chouyu and other well-known poets and writers settling down in Jinmen, the whole level of Jinmen writers will improve.The culture and literature of Jinmen, Taiwan and Mainl are rooted in the same soil. The study also confirms that Jinmen and Taiwan have been part of China since ancient times. Perhaps this study can in some degree make up for a blank in Mainland scholars' study of Jinmen Literature.
