The society never stops changing and developing, and this is also true of a language, the communicative tool used by human beings in their social activities. A language remains in a relatively stable state, or we may say that a language doesn't change much over a good period of time. The changes of a language are not so noticeable, which may lead to our neglect of them. Of course a language does not change as much and quickly as the weather does, yet we can't afford to overlook the changes, especially the changes in words, the most active part of a language.Languages are "alive", and this is generally accepted by the linguists. The vitality of languages lies in their ever-changing nature that enables them to become richer to meet the growing needs to express more new ideas. At the same time, some words become out-of-dated due to the passage of time and the development of science and technology. Besides, some "old words" are gaining new meanings.Among the changes, this thesis deals mainly with neologisms that are keeping appearing in Chinese and English in various media and the translation of Chinese neologisms into English.The thesis consists of four main parts.
