Multinational corporations (MNCs), as an engine of the world economic growth, have been the most powerful human organization yet devised for colonizing the future. By scanning the entire planet for opportunities, by keeping their overriding goal simple-worldwide profit maximization-they have become an institution of unique economic power.Furthermore, multinational companies have the greatest political muscle. Their political power stems from their ability to sprinkle more cash at campaign time, when the regulators are running for office, and to supply from their own ranks a generous number of commissioners and assistant secretaries to the regulatory process regardless of which party is in power. Most important, when the giants, unlike the local mill or drugstore, threaten to pull up stakes or collapse if the government deals with them too harshly, their threats are effective political weapons. In this paper I shall be looking in specific ways at the impact of global corporations on the domestic politics and foreign policies of the United States. To what extent do MNCs determine the domestic politics? To what extent do they determine American diplomacy?Chapter One of this paper explains why U.S.-based MNCs intervene in American politics. Chapter Two summarizes the various techniques used by MNCs to accomplish their political goals. Chapter Three hereof explains the influences exercised by MNCs upon the US election, executive branch and state function. Finally, the paper expounds the impact of their political behaviors on American foreign policies in an international context. The paper argues that on the one hand, MNCs are adding fuel to American government's push of hegemony and on the other hand, its adverse performances oversees have produced unfavorable influences upon the US politics.
