As a special news type, economic news is characterized by its nature of expertise, reality, service, direction and practicability and thus distinctive dictions can be found in such news. At the present information age when economic exchange dominates the national economic life, economic news intended for foreign audience is on sharp increase in all sorts of media in China, so that the C-E translation research should not be ignored by the translation circle.Through the study of some leading journals intended for foreign audience, like China Daily, China Today, Beijing Review and China Economic News, some first-hand examples have been collected so as to facilitate the lexical analyses about the economic news in terms of lexical varieties frequently used and lexical origin. And the lexical varieties frequently used include terminologies & jargons, figures & numbers, proper names, compact expressions, fuzzy terms, common lexis and idioms & slang. The author suggested, after looking back on and commenting on the previous translation standards both in and outside China, that the C-E translation of economic news should be carried out in the light of faithfulness and appropriate transmitivity. Accordingly, eight translation strategies are proposed to address the distinctive dictions in economic news, namely back translation, word building, translation of proper names, compact expressions, figurative lexes and culture-loaded words, one lexis, varied translation as well as measuring unit conversion. Meanwhile, the problematic translations encountered in the research are categorized in the end of the dissertation into kindergarten mistakes, translation defects and translation confusion while tentative effort has been devoted to the treatment of such problems.
