The article , based on England and Scotland, 1745, associates the period tightly, analyses the conflict between "Growing-up novel " and historical novel in Walter Scott's long novel 《WAVERLEY or' TIS SIXTY YEARS SINCE》.The paper includes six parts: 1, Foreword; 2, A brief introduce of all Walter Scott's life; 3, Waverley, this part contain a short introduce of the book, the background of the period, analyzes this book is Growing-up novel which based on the master's disposition and his action in the book. But it also is a historical novel, if we based on the major story of the booko That is to say, Waverley is false master in historical novel. So, the Growing-up novel is in contradiction with the historical novel. 4, False master in historical novel, Waverley could not become the true master in historical novel, because his home, education, and disposition. I inquire the different opinions about the masters in Walter Scott's historical novels before analyses Waverley's disposition. 5, The advantages of Waverley is being the narrator of the book, including defamiliarization, "middle road" . From the narrate angle, it could makes outstanding clues, increases dramatic elements, makes the portrait more naturally when they make their first appearance, earns readers's mercy for Waverley. 6, The defects of Waverley is being the narrator of the book, the backdoor economical and political background of the rebellion were not exposed abundantly, Waverley did not understood Scottish Highland regiments deeply.
