Abstract/Summary:
Foster is an important English novelist at the turning of the 20th century, which happened to be the transitional period of English literature from tradition to renovation. He is famous for his unique artistic techniques of the novel writing. He neither abides by the outmoded traditional tactics in literary creation nor hankers after the newest genre, but makes great efforts to develop the advantages of realistic writing habits while absorbing the essence of modernism in literature, so that both the traditional and innovative writing devices can be found in his works. A Room with a View is a novel of unique characteristics, which is the organic integration of realism and modernism. This paper aims to analyze these artistic techniques employed in the novel, and their positive roles in revealing the theme of the novel, which can help us better understand the theme of the novel as well as Forster's special fashion in fictional creation.
