Tourism has become one of the most dynamic and fastest developing industries in the world. It helps bridge the psychological and cultural distance between people of diverse races, colors, religions and social status. Moreover, tourism accelerates economic development, enhances awareness and understanding between nations. China, an oriental country, with her long-standing history, brilliant civilization, wonderful natural landscape and multi-ethnic culture, attracts more and more international tourists. However, the C-E translation quality of various written tourist materials, called as tourism texts in this thesis, is not so satisfactory due to errors caused by cultural factors, which has become a hot issue in translation field that calls for our attention and solution.With the establishment of anthropocentrism in the field of scientific research across the world and the rise of the cultural school in translation studies, the "cultural value" of translation has become an important concern in the discipline. Cultranslation theory holds that the relationship between language, culture and translation is indispensable and translation is an interlingual and intercultural communication, which are the foundation and the core of cultranslation. Cultranslation requires the translator to be bilingual and bicultural, to know well his/her roles both as the reader of the source text and the producer of the target text, to take into full account all the factors related to translation, aiming at effective communication between two cultures.This thesis is intended to find out the effective principles that may guide the English translation of Chinese tourism text.
