At first I define intellectual in my thesis, and put forward my own viewpoints to the Chinese intellectuals placed in" edge" or" center". I try to analyze a series of intellectuals' images in the New ages' novels, the authors and critics in the realistic life from 1950's, by using three ideas of the Birds Broken Wings", "the Candles" and "the Thorn Birds" to make parables about the different types of intellectuals, explore their lost excellent qualities when they floundered" between center and edges" with the development of the ages, which result in the consequences, influence during reconstructing the intellectual' personality.During the analysis of the Birds Broken Wings ", I select several generations of intellectuals as models and carefully analyze why they lost own excellent qualities gradually in order to found the center and chase the age's steps, become "the birds broken wings " unwillingly in particular age, investigate the social history and political reason, traditional culture mental, the imperfection of personal personality and spirit about their change. Their destiny is filled with the tragic color.Two extreme development of the Birds Broken Wings "constituted two different kinds of Candles" - the candles in the sun and in the personal little worlds.
