With the enhancement of teachers'awareness of learners'leading position in the process of foreign language learning, it has become a new trend to foster students'learning autonomy in English teaching reform, and some computer-assisted autonomous learning centers, serving as a device of promotion, are subsequently established in some colleges and universities of China. This paper has mainly studied university-leveled learning autonomy of foreign languages in self-access learning centers, discussing the situation of the self-access learning center in Chongqing University from the four aspects, such as the foundation of its theories, the principles of its establishment, the mode of its management, and the system of its self-assessment. Then through questionnaires, interviews, observations of the students'performance in the situation and analysis of the scores they got, hours they spent and progress they made in the computer-assisted autonomous learning center, the writer reveals several problems heavily hindering the development of students'autonomous learning competence, including inappropriate application of learning strategies, lack of motivation, and deep-rooted dependent consciousness resulting from Chinese traditional teaching model, and so on. In the end, in order to help students obtain autonomous learning competence and become fully independent learners in their life, the paper positively considers some means of dealing with these problems and puts forward some valuable suggestions contributing to the improvement of autonomous learning efficiency.
