| This paper, on the basis of the theories in conversation analysis and by inductive method, through quantitative analysis of conversation recordings of American students in Chinese language class, attempts to explore the similarities and differences between the conversation characteristic of American students in Chinese class and that of Chinese people in daily situation on back channel item, interruption, turn-taking rules, adjacency pairs and so on.This thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is a brief introduction to the reasons to choose this topic and the background of conversation analysis research in and out of China.
