Critique Of The Modernity-critique

This paper compare the novels of Wang Xiaobo and Vonnegut, in focus of both artistic skill and writing idea. In the aspect of skill, Wang had tried to clear up the nihility of the life by constructing of poetry, his aestheticism is apt to art-metaphysics. On the other hand, Vonnegut reject poetry intentionally in his modernity-critique. Neither art-metaphysics nor reject to the poetry belongs to modernistic phenomena and can't solve modernistic problem radically. In the aspect of ideas, Wang generalize Utopia with no-sex, no-nous, no-interest. He gave us a prescription: develop intelligence and knowledge. But he didn't find out the rootstock of modernity: expanding of nous and controllingof technique, which Vonnegut understood clearly while the way he point out--humanisticmeliorating--belongs to metaphysics either. So we see the localization of the writers again, and wecan turn over to think the rootstock of modernity--metaphysics.
