Confucianism was purposefully introduced to Japan during the Yamato period. It can be said that whether early Japanese Confucianism, or Neo-Confucianism of Chu Hsi of Japan which was dominant as the"official school"in Takugawa period, or Japanese ancient school in knowledge systems are unable to break away from China Confucianism's impact. The article not focuses on the change of the learning system, but on the model of Confucianism's role in society, especially in Takugawa society. Accordingly, Confucianism is not considered as the learning system, but as the social ideology. Along with such guidance, the author finds that Confucianism worked as the social ideology even when it was introduced to the Yamato state. However it failed to exist as the social ideology, and survived as the learning system and was handed down by few scholars. In Takugawa era, Neo-Confucianism of Chu Hsi of Japan was founded through serving Takugawa society with the theory of Neo-Confucianism of Chu Hsi . It was the time Neo-Confucianism of Chu Hsi of Japan became as the social ideology, not just as the learning system. When it came to Genryoku era, the whole feudal structure began to decline because of commerce's impact. The feudal structure had to coexist with the business community. Since Neo-Confucianism of Chu Hsi of Japan failed to face the social realities, Japanese ancient school produced. Although Japanese ancient school took some ancient Confucian forms, but Japanese ancient school is not a scholarship school in essence. In fact, Japanese ancient school's mission was to accept changes in Genryoku period, and attempted to interfere with reality. Thus, despite it emerged as the opposition of Neo-Confucianism of Chu Hsi of Japan, but in fact, Japanese ancient school was to change the lagging of Neo-Confucianism of Chu Hsi of Japan. From this perspective, I think that the Japanese ancient school is the change of Neo-Confucianism of Chu Hsi of Japan in Genryoku period as the social ideology.
