The Discussion Of Tragic Characters In The Old Testament Historical Books

Within the more standard approaches of biblical criticism, the category of tragedy has played a peripheral role. Scholars in China have never carefully and systematically explored the relation between potential of tragedy as illuminating perspective for explicating biblical texts and Bible. Through reading the Bible carefully and study of the concept changes of tragedy in the history,the author thinks that tragedy has a powerful involvement with the Bible and is not incompatible with it. Concerning with the experience of individual fate,tragedy and tragic characters did exist in the Bible widely. In this paper,the author chooses Historical Books of the Old Testament as the object of research and discusses the problem in detail.This paper mainly consists of three parts,i.e. the preface,the text proper and the epilogue, which will be briefly illustrated as follows:In the preface,the author introduces the scope of the study,then illuminates the paper's origin and train of thoughts.The text proper is composed of four parts,firstly summarizes the features of the tragic characters based on the ideas of the scholars whoever is abroad or at home,historical or current. Concerning the problem if tragic characters exist in the Bible,the author introduces several views in the history of Bible criticism,and then put forward my opinion toward these views. Combined with the standpoints of former and present philosophers and critics,the author briefly sum up the principal features of tragic characters.Part second, the author deploy the dissertation concretely and conclude the different presentations of tragic character in the Historical Book. The first presentation take the tragic characters takes Saul and the house of Saul as the representative examples,on the basis of important tragedy factors,such as tragic conflict,tragic course,tragic personality and tragic spirit,to elaborate the idea that Saul is the victim of Theocracy and Kingship and the house of Saul's tragedy is created by the disaster nature of their family and is the extension of Saul's tragedy.
