As s royal descendant of Han Dynasty and an erudite, Liu Xiang concerned deeply about various social disease, reported the court continuously and displayed the existed disadvantages. Naturally, he compiled Xin Xu with the intention of learning lessons from history. The book contains abundant valuable thoughts while appearing multiple existent significance. This paper will comb and analyze the receptive history of Xin Xu with the expectation of expositing its existent value and significance hitherto.This paper composes of three parts: introduction, the body of the paper and conclusion.Introduction describes the literature review on Xin Xu, points out the deficiencies and explains the significance of discussing the receptive history of Xin Xu.The body of the paper is divided into four chapters according to the eras. Chapter One probes into the receptive history of Xin Xu before Song Dynasty. With the appearance of Xin Xu, Huan Tan, Ban Gu and other recipients affirmed its idea of"helping the emperor and obeying the nature". This orientation is inherited by later bibliographical authors, who regarded Xin Xu as confucian work; besides, the other recipients, such as Wei TaiZong and Tong XuanZong, ascertained the thoughts of XinXu form some point. Some books, like Bei Tang Shu Chao and Yi Wen Lei Ju, quoted form Xin Xu and embodied great documentary value objectively for their stylistic limitation.Chapter Two focuses on the reception of Xin Xu in Song Dynasty.
