Study On Historical Development Of Green Landscape Painting

As one of the Chinese painting forms, Green Landscape Painting had been formed as early as in Wei-Jin Period, but it still attached to China's Figure Painting as background at that time. It was popular and prosperous in the Period of the Sui and Tang Dynasties and reached the peak in the Southern Song Dynasty again. In spite of the rise of Wangwei and Zhang Zao's Landscape Ink-paintings in the middle of Tang Dynasty, Green Landscape Painting still kept pace between color and ink. After Five Dynasties, with the rise of Chinese Ink and Wash Painting and the mature of Literati Painting, landscape ink painters became cold to the colors so that Green Landscape Painting suffered depreciation and discrimination and was extruded out of the position of main flow as a classical painting form which died in the earliest time in the history of Chinese Landscape Painting. However, in its general declining process of the past one thousand years, it still attracts people for such a long time by its precise image shaping, the pursuing of flamboyant and exaggerate colors, bright decorations, rich painting techniques and powerful visual fascination, which does not result in its continuous declining but it's sustaining development, though in a non main-flow position, by painters in the past dynasties based on constantly absorbing more and more complete and abundant painting language and expressing techniques of other painting forms. At an age of art innovation and development of modern landscape painting, we cannot separate ourselves from perceiving and experiencing realistic life as well as realizing and holding time spirit on one hand, but on the other hand we cannot depart us from learning and inheriting the art quintessence of the ancient traditional culture.To develop such a form of Chinese classical Landscape Painting-GreenLandscape Painting and to make it both keep ancient tradition and adapt to time need, we have to know the past of it because only when we learn its developing process and its present can we develop it better and make its multicolored art language promote the course of our own ethical culture to the world as well as to the diversity. This article is a brief statement on the development of Green Landscape Painting.
