Translation is required as a compulsory course for English majors in many colleges and universities in China. However, the status of translation teaching as a sub-direction or means of improving foreign language competence has prevented the effectiveness and development of translation teaching. This study is aimed at giving a framework of the effectiveness of college translation teaching.Effective classroom practice is not the only factor that embodies the effectiveness of college translation teaching. In order to establish a simple and multidimensional framework for college translation teaching, this dissertation employs three methods to investigate relevant matters—review of literature, questionnaire and interview.There are 6 parts in the dissertation. Introduction includes the purpose and background of this study, reasons to choose this topic, and research questions Chapter1 deals with a series of concepts about translation and translation teaching, history and status quo of translation teaching. Chapter2 reviews effective teaching in China and abroad,including the meaning and principles of effective teaching, previous research, and effective teaching from the perspective of curriculum implementation. Chapter3 presents a framework for translation teaching, including teaching goal, teaching principles and methods, teaching material, classroom practice, student evaluation and teacher quality. Chapter4 is an introduction of research design. Chapter5, the main part of this dissertation analyzes data collected by interview and questionnaire in the hope of testing and completing this framework. Chapter6 gives a conclusion about this study, including summarization, significance, limitations and future study.The foundation of this framework lies in that translation teaching is the kind of teaching that can promote intelligence development and creative thinking development.
