Newspaper Language: Features And Translation Approaches

Newspaper language has its own features. Nowadays we are in the age of reform and opening to the outside world, it becomes more and more important for us to know the features of newspaper language and master its translation skills. This thesis can be divided into two parts: the first part expounds the features of newspaper language systematically, especially the features of newspaper English, which includes the features of headlines, body language, sentences and paragraphs and the general figures of speech in English newspapers and magazines. Also in this part the features of Chinese newspaper language are introduced. The second part, the translation of newspaper language is the core of the whole thesis. It expounds the requirements of translation of newspaper language in an all-round way. How to translate the newspaper language according to the standard of translation? How to make the translation more news like? This part mainly talks about the translation skills of how to translate the headlines into the target language; not only English headlines into Chinese ones but also Chinese headlines into English ones, especially the latter that is rarely studied by scholars. The words of newspaper language are fresh, newsy and unique, hence when we try to introduce the things that have the Chinese characteristics into the outside world, it is very important to translate them into English correctly. The thesis introduces several ways, including the creative method and interpretive method. It tells us that China English is feasible while Chinglish should be avoided. Furthermore, the thesis introduces the foreigners'ways of translation of those things that only exist in China and discusses the ways of translation of some Chinese neologisms by abundant examples.
