| Context has been discussed by scholars in various fields all over the world. But there is a need to set up a translation context because each of the historical views can only partially serve in the translation process and can not deal with all the difficulties and problems. On the basis of the precedent theory proposed by scholars in this field, the thesis writer tries to set up a model of translation context which can be applied mainly for literary translation. The thesis advocates that translation context is inseparable in the translation process because it performs critical functions in the process of interpreting the original and transforming it to the target language. The reason for the need to interpret the original in its context lies in the arbitrary and ambiguous nature of language and its functions. Besides, the dynamic nature of the context determines the significance of correctly interpreting the interactive relationships among the contextual elements. Two contextual functions are performed in the translation process. The first one is to assign proper values to reference and the second one is the cooperation among the participants. Both of the two enable the translator to interpret and transform the original to the target. It is unavoidable in the translation process to meet with problems. With the help of the translation context, the translator, i.e., the mediator can manage to solve the problems by an integrated approach which is contextualized.Context is also necessary in double-checking because the standard of evaluation is the degree of the correlation of the contextual elements. In short, the thesis will try to prove that translation context as a unique unit is an inseparable part in the translation process. |
