| Anyone who takes up translating may have a deep impression that translation and culture are closely bound up and inseparable from each other. Differed from other existing theses, this paper lays special emphasis on the serious consequence of translation work caused by translators'blind spots in cultural backgrounds, instead of interaction between culture and translation. Furthermore, two brand-new concepts are created in the paper, they are blind spot in cultural background and translation deviation, which show an interesting new approach and make the structure of the paper clearer and easier to follow.Starting from the relationship between culture and translation, the paper makes a systematic exposition about the effect of cultural backgrounds on translators and the centralized reflections of culture made by translation, analyses reasons for the occurrence of blind spots in cultural backgrounds, their language expressions and enormous influence on translations, studies diverse embodiments and serious consequences of translation deviation, proposes several fairly practical plans and methods to solve the problem, which are sure to play a positive role in translation works. One may well say that this topic is of great significance. Translators'accomplishment in self-cultivation may directly affect the quality of their work. If translators brush aside their blind spots in cultural backgrounds, disregarding deficiency in knowledge or taking problems in translation for granted, the level of their translation will certainly be declined, and translation task will encounter great obstacles. This problem seems to be inevitable, but everything depends on men's efforts. Even if we may not make it perfect, we do can make it better by continuous improvement and breakthrough. In virtue of this paper, we sincerely hope to sound a warning for the broad mass of translators. We should handle our work with great caution and be responsible for original sources, for receivers, and for ourselves. Translation does not simply mean to convey information and knowledge in a few articles, instead, it is a bridge for creating mutual understandings, serving better international exchanges among different nations and different cultures, drawing on essences of human cultural heritages to dedicate to human civilization. Only by knowing your own value, can you then make it double or more. |
