| He Xiangning was one of the first artists who went abroad to study in Japan in the early 20th century. She had drawn many paintings throughout her life and was the chairperson of the China Artists Association. Undeniably, He Xiangning was a great artist. However she has been ignored by the Chinese art research community for a long time. This article studies the relationship between her and the LingNan School of Painting, and tries to illucidate the reason why she is ignored, thus allows us to have a new understanding and opinion on the true value and status of He Xiangning in the history of Chinese art.He Xiangning and the LingNan masters, Brothers Gao and Chen, were all from Guangdong. Through JuLian, He Xiangning affiliated with Gao Jianfu, Chen Shuren and Gao Qifeng. Then they all went to Japan to study painting, and influenced by the Japanese painting style. When they came back to China, they all tried to find new ways to integrate the western and eastern painting styles. Eventually, they all returned to the traditional style. Furthermore, they all participated in the TongMengHui, and devoted themselves to the revolution. But as a established concept, the LingNan School of Painting includes both Brothers Gao and Chen and their students, but not He Xiangning.
