The art of woodblocks in China's Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty and the art of Japanese woodcuts in Edu Period enjoyed its greatest popularity in the woodcuts golden time of the two countries. It represents the public's appreciation of aesthetics.The woodblocks carving in China's Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty not only promoted this art form to a high peak in the history, but also made a great contribution to flourish the Chinese literature and drama. The Japanese woodcuts in Edu Period illustrates the reality of the society and expresses the people's ideal of that time, it has influenced the generation and development of the Europe impressionism painting in 19th centenary.From the historical clues of the development of the wood carving, the article tries to compare and analyze the two kinds of art forms in the aspects of historic background, artists, works and styles, and to study the figures in the classical plays of that time. It aims to enlighten the people on digging out the new values of the art of the woodcuts.
