Temples And Overseas Chinese Society In Singapore In Modern Times

Taken the guidance of relevant theories such as history, anthropology and sociology, my article is based on temples and the overseas Chinese society in Singapore in modern times, together with a lot of photographs and charts. Under the axis of the temples, I do research on four aspects. They are the faction of the overseas Chinese society in modern times, secret connections, overseas Chinese associations, overseas Chinese education and carrying forward of Chinese culture. 1 draw the following conclusions. Firstly, the faction of overseas Chinese was a main factor in the course of the temples. Secondly, secret connections had once done great impact on most of the temples. Thirdly, the schools under the backing of some temples, such as the chongwen pavilion, contributed to the children of overseas Chinese on learning of the traditional Chinese culture. Finally, there were the structures of the temples, the adoring activities of the deities, the horizontal inscribed boards and the antithetical couplets in the temples , which embodied the qualities of the Chinese traditional culture, making the temples the carriers of carrying forward Chinese culture. Furthermore, I want to investigate the status of the temples in the overseas Chinese society in modern times and prove the existing value of the temples in overseas Chinese in Singapore.
