Objective: It was to explore the efficiency of Stress Inoculation-Training in Group therapy for improving coping style of patients with major depression, With the deduction of their depression symptoms.Medthods: 66 patients with major depression were randomized to two groups, according to the score of internality scale. Each for 33 cases. The experiment group received medication and SIT(Stress Inoculation--Training) for 12 weeks while the control group received medication therapy. Coping style scale and HAMD were administered to two groups both at baseline and at the end of the experiment. Results: 1.The coping style has no significant difference between two groups at baseline(P>.05). 2. Compared to baseline, four coping style factors (including problem solving, seeking help, blaming oneself, and withdrawling) have changed significantly in experiment group (P<.01),but only the factor(blaming oneself) has changed in the control group. The difference of the coping style between two groups was significant after the experiment. 3. Compared to controls, the experiment group showed a signicant reduction in the scores at HAMD( (P<.01).Conclusions: 1. SIT has improved coping styles effectively in patients with major depression. 2. The improvement of coping style prompted depression symptions in the patients. 3.The result of intervention with medication and SIT for major depression was better than that of single medication therapy.
