Translation made by Lu Xun has long attracted the attention of the domestic academia. There are many monographs and papers on it nowadays, including some enlightening works. But up till now, few people have conducted the research into the literature translation theory of Lu Xun from the perspective of the latest "polysystem theory". This thesis tries to do some research on Lu Xun's translation theory and practice of literature from the perspective of polysystem theory.Assisted by Even-Zohar's idea about three-stage theory and Toury's theory of translation norms, this thesis takes advantage of polysystem theory as the fundamental theory frame. Even-Zohar pays attention to the role of translation, one system of "polysystem", in literary system. While another Israel scholar, Gideon Toury advocates three translation norms, initial norms, preliminary norms and operational norms, to confirm the function of norms in translation. The second chapter also briefly introduces Lu Xun's translation theories and practice of literature. Translated literature around the May 4th Movement experienced a special process in the history of Chinese literature. It moved from the periphery to the center of Chinese literature. As a translator, Lu Xun left us lots of valuable literature versions and literature translation theories, such as "rather be faithful than smooth", "All translations should give consideration to two aspects: one, of course, is to make the version easy to understand; the other one is to keep the charm and genre of the original work." This thesis tries to use Israel scholar Even-Zohar's three-stage theory and Gideon Toury's translation norms to illustrate and analyze Lu Xun's literature translation practice and theories.The third chapter has two parts. The first part tries to use Even-Zohar's "Three-stage Theory" to explain literature translation motivation of Lu Xun. At that time, translation bears two tasks, that is to say, it needs introduce the new ingredients of foreign cultures and eradicate the chronic illness of old Chinese culture. Trough translation, Lu Xun wanted to accelerate modernization of national ideology and promote modernism of Chinese culture.
