The Vietnam War ended half a century ago, it is a special and unforgettable war to Americans, however. The war, which lasted over ten years, didn't result in good results in spite that the federal administration spent a lot in terms of materials and human resources. It is a war without proclaim, obvious objectives and bright future, a war that young people tried to avoid, a war full of contradictions, and above all, a special war produced some special people: Vietnam veteran of America. As direct participants of the war, Vietnam veterans are those who experienced its specialty. They took part in the war with the appeal of patriot but returned as losers. They didn't take pride in fighting for their motherland and didn't receive the deserved treatment of Americans. In spite of their arduous adjustment, they didn't live well after their return. The federal administration carried out some policies on their jobs and education, but didn't get the effect as expected.The paper begins with the introduction of the specialty of Vietnam War and its American veterans, followed by the description of self-adjustment by Vietnam veterans and an overall analysis of some policies by the government on veterans and finally comes the conclusion. The paper consists of three parts. They are the introduction, the context and the conclusion. The introduction explains the significance of writing this paper as well as the research situation on this subject. The context can be divided into four parts.The first part introduced the specialty of the Vietnam War and the Vietnam veterans. When the young people faced with the appeal of fighting for freedom, they tried their best to avoid being chosen instead of active participating. Those who could hardly avoid had to join the army and went to Vietnam. In the war, they must not only tolerant terrible surroundings but also bear morale burdens, which made them feel tired. However, the survived soldiers returned and found themselves become "Strangers at home". The reason is that they took part in a special war: the Vietnam War. In spite of the objections of most America people, the administration sent army to Vietnam without obvious aims. The soldiers couldn't adjust to the enemies' strategy. They didn't know how to judge enemies and how to win the war. The objectives of descent winning got further away from America since there were more and more conflicts within American themselves. Not knowing itself and the enemy, the administration lost people's trust and made its veterans got into troubles.The second part is about the adjustment problems the Vietnam veterans faced...
