In the directors who rose in the end of last century, Kim Kiduk is an important and special one. His movies are consisted of strange stories, the heterogeneous and beautiful pictures. What most attracted audiences and critics is his profound view about human nature, the society we live in and the history of South Korea. His works not only represent the high level of South Korean films, but also become unique movie phenomenon in the movie world. This dissertation focuses on Kim Kiduk and his movies, which can be divided into five parts:The introduction briefly summaries the Kim Kiduk phenomenon in the movie world, including the special appearance of his movies caused avoidable misunderstandings and improper criticism.The second part mainly introduces all the movies of Kim Kiduk, which can be categorized into three stages according to his themes and styles.The third part discusses Kim Kiduk's unique styles including story structure, characters and his typical signs.The fourth part selectes a successive element in all his works for discussion, which is another kind of analysis of Kim Kiduk's movies in the terms of social and historic contexts.The conclusion makes no final decision which school Kim Kiduk belongs to and just defines him as a brilliant unique director.
