This thesis is intended to answer the following questions on the basis of a corpus study:What are the characteristics of Chinese English learners'spelling errors?What is the tendency of change among different levels of English learners?Is it true that learners spelling errors are merely due to the irregularity of English phonetics?How is a word form stored in the memory of a learner?How should we adjust our vocabulary instruction approaches according to the special types of spelling errors made by Chinese English learners?Apart from Introduction and Conclusion, this thesis is made up of four chapters.Chapter one discusses the researches made by scholars at home and abroad on vocabulary acquisition, spelling errors and orthographic representation access model.Chapter two introduces the source of data, method of data collection and research procedures.Chapter three makes analysis of the spelling errors collected from Chinese Learner English Corpus and attempts to offer explanations to the factors leading to these errors.In Chapter four the author intends to elicit some instructional implications based on this research.
