Substantial one-act opera sprang in the intermediary and later stage of Ming Dynasty, many scholars competed to express their emotion by this system which has been lasting until the end of Qing Dynasty. The one-act opera in Ming Dynasty is the object of study in this paper ,which has been put into the whole developing course of the Chinese opera. This paper adopts the method of comparison, examines the quantity of works, explains the contents, explores the artistic feature, investigates the internal and external cause of its flourishing in Ming Dynasty, inspects its features and developing course in Ming Dynasty in order to provide a beneficial reference to the study of the history of Chinese opera and the existence and development of Chinese opera in modern times.The paper composes three parts: preface, body and conclusion.The preface introduce the necessity of researching the one-act opera and the visual angle of demonstration.The body is divided into five parts.In the first part, it traces back to the origin of the one-act opera. The source of the one-act drama is the variety drama in the Song and Jin Dynasty. Wangjiusi's works of The wolf in zhongshan is a ripe works of one-act opera, but the author named it"the performer's scripts", it makes clear that the one-act opera is based on the performer's scripts. The structure and the performance of the performer's scripts can be conjectured from the variety drama in the Song and Jin Dynasty. In Yuan Dynasty , not only the variety drama in the Song and Jin Dynasty but also the performer's scripts combined to the Taoshu , during the combination, the embryo of one-act opera occured.The second part examines the quantity of the works.
