| More than 60 years ago, the largest war in human history has greatly stimulated the development and prosperity of war literature. Thus scholars have begun to research the war literature particularly. The War is not only a test of a country's military strength, but also a test of a country's national spirit and cultural history. Literature provides an aesthetic reflection of life and time and can also accurately reflect national spirit and cultural history. Literary war drama, which is the more active form of literature during war, gives us insight into national ethos.Literature, whose theme is the world's anti-fascist struggle, has a very rich history connotation and various arts characteristics. In order to review how the literature reflects time, I choose drama as a starting point to compare Chongqing war dramas with US anti-fascist dramas. Through extensive study I discover there are many commons between Chongqing war dramas and US anti-fascist dramas. I sum up a common feature, that is, they both reflect utilitarianism. I explain the macro-perspective drama movements and the micro-perspective drama arts in detail. The drama arts include themes, plot patterns, images, psychological analyses, and so on. After comparative study I find the common ground is obvious. A lot of dramas highlight a common feature with similar aesthetic subjects. The key differences, which are concealed, can be seen after careful scrutiny and screening. The cultural trends and spiritual connotations which hide behind the differences have greater significances than the common. After pointing out the differences, I focus on three causes. The direct cause is the threat of the war. Under the environment of the war, aesthetic principles and the pressure of survival are both in a dilemma. The deep cause is the social and cultural environment. The collective consciousnesses directly affect the individuals. The historical reason is the modern understanding of the war culture. From these three major respects I have explain the reason why Chongqing war dramas lack of deep anti-war plays.Chongqing war dramas have created a "golden age" in Chinese play history. But in comparison with the US anti-fascist dramas, we can see the disparities. I hope the Chinese theatre even the Chinese culture will have profound changes. |
