John Fowles is an international famous English writer in the contemporary literature word, whose novels show the novelists' hesitation and final decisions in the "crossing road " of the novel .His efforts between the realism and the experimentalism have increased energy for the development of the novels.Nature and philosophy as indispensable parts in John Fowles's life are the living way and mental support, which can realize his perpetual seek for freedom. John Fowles's standpoint of freedom has been deeply impacted by the Existentialist especially Sartre' .But with the different living environment , acquired knowledge and life experience , John Fowles's sense of freedom has integral more context of class and society and formed his own freedom conception which become the core of his writing . Fowles thinks that the world is fantastic and incredible, but people can get relative freedom by choosing and acting in certain range. Freedom is fluid, so the gas between the Few and the Many can be narrowed by the individual progress through education and come to freedom of the whole society .The diversified hardships in the human's life and self-development depicted by Fowles not only encourage people's self-examination but also explore out the specific means for people to fight for their freedom and realize themselves. Great deals of encouragement from Fowles full display his wisdom and profundity as a writer and a philosophy.Fowles's innovation of the novel form is corresponding with his freedom motif .Be in pursuit of freedom ,Fowles has developed his conception of Existentialism freedom to the core of his literature standpoint . In his writing, which referring to Existentialism, Fowles inquired into the subject of human freedom not only from the angle of motif but also from the level of the narrative. because of the rigid realism and the superficial experimentalism ,Fowles locates his wok with freedom to formed a free narrative style that is the free cooperation of the author, character and reader through a sorts of writing techniques like imitation and parody , compound person and visual angle , spatial structure which change the traditional relationship among the author, the character and the reader and realize unity between the content and the form . The concern about the reader, innovation and tradition which manifested in works show the author's new pointof view about the writing in the late 20th century and provide a varied way for it.This paper tries to explore Fowles's double expression of his freedom conception from two aspects: the content and the form .It would stand by the whole works of Fowles with centering on his representing works: The Collector and The French Lieutenant's Woman and referring the others. Fowles has displayed his existentialism concerning about the human freedom and his free narrative style formed with the aesthetic orientation. With the documentations on these findings, the paper would also explore the inherent facts of Fowles's success and its inspiration to the contemporary novels .
