After the emergence of "One Hundred Palace Poems" by Wangjian, Palace poems in Tang dynasty is highly concerned by many poets, and lots of Palace poems are created afterwards, which attracts the attention of poem critics from different dynasties who express their own points of view upon this. Among all these contradictory comments, this paper tries to determine the position of Palace poem in Tang dynasty by analyzing the reason for its prosperity, the content, and the artistic characteristics. Based on the discussion above, the following exploration will be conducted in terms of four aspects:First, to card various viewpoints to Palace poems from different poem critics;to explore the foundation for the prosperity of Palace poems in Tang dynasty.Second, to discuss the reason for rapid development of Palace poems in Tang dynasty under the big environment of Mid-Tang culture. The discussion will be conducted from three aspects: first of all, relaxed political environment encourages poets to create poems freely, which gives no exception to the palace secrets, then Wangjian creates "Said to him by oneself". secondly, the entertainment atmosphere after Mid-Tang dynasty keeps on rising, the trend to luxurious in the palace, and the peculiarity of the female in the palace arouse the poets' interests in palace secrets. finally, after the Anlushan Rebellion, the poet's cultural psychology change from be in high spirits to be immersed in their own interests.Third, to analyze the popular theme in palace poem, to point out the differences of several important palace poets' creation and the importance of Palace poems. This part may put emphasis on the female in Palace poems, the entertainment life in palace, the custom in Tang dynasty, and the daily life in palace.Fourth, to explore the artistic characteristics of Palace poems which is expressed in three aspects: one, the Palace poems which is short and small can also functions as the poems which is long;two, the poems almost describe everything in palace, so they display Qiqu which gives readers surprise, Tiqu which makes readers smile or think, and Qingqu which is lively or vivid;three, the poems change lyric into narrative.
